Frequency is an event series bringing people together working across audio engineering and music production to look at the latest developments, plugins, programs and workflows. Facilitated by Ryan Powderly, Ableton User Group Naarm/Melbourne (AUGNM) is a community get-together providing a space for producers, musicians and likeminded creatives to connect. Learn from some of the best and brightest electronic producers and performers as they present their works-in-progress and share the tricks, tips and techniques that take their music to the next level. If you’re an Ableton Live beginner or a seasoned electronic music veteran, there’s always something new to learn at these meet-up sessions. Ableton User Group Melbourne/Naarm is a collective of producers and musicians of all skill levels. They’re drawn together by their interest in using music production software Ableton Live. This group is a user and a community program and not officially administered by Ableton.

July 22 – Rainbow Chan: Sampling Workflows
Singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Rainbow Chan will be giving a presentation that explores three distinct ways to approach the art of sampling, including specific techniques for making ‘found sounds’ musical. Rainbow Chan is based between Naarm/Melbourne and Gadigal/Sydney. Driven by a DIY spirit, Chan melds catchy melodies and off-kilter beats made up of field recordings and found sounds. Her idiosyncratic brand of pop draws from deeply personal tales of love and loss whilst reflecting diasporic experiences, language and matrilineal histories. Chan has performed at renowned venues and festivals including Sydney Opera House, Vivid Festival, Arts Centre Melbourne, MONA FOMA, Gallery of Modern Art, Melbourne Music Week, Iceland Airwaves, SXSW (Austin, US), M+ Museum (Hong Kong) and PUSH International Performing Arts Festival (Canada).
