Artistic Director Anne-Louise Sarks takes on the Broadway smash-hit comedy – one of the most talked about works of theatre in recent years.

This is the fierce and thrilling Australian premiere of a multi-award-winning Broadway and West End smash, directed by Artistic Director Anne-Louise Sarks ( My Brilliant Career, Rebecca ) and starring Masego Pitso ( Is God Is ).

In a small-town high school, a group of Year 11 girls navigating schoolyard scandals and sex education are studying Arthur Miller’s The Crucible . But as unsettling rumours begin to ripple through their community, the hysteria of Salem witch trials starts to bleed into the hallways, the group chats and the complicated terrain of adolescence – causing their allegiances to fracture.

Playwright Kimberly Belflower’s John Proctor Is the Villain is a celebratory and gloriously entertaining reframing of a literary classic – one that centres the fantasies and fury of young women with the same urgency Miller brought to his own. Part high school coming of age, part feminist reckoning, it has the energy of a prestige comedy drama and the power to ‘engage and electrify’ (The Guardian) audiences of all ages.

John Proctor Is the Villain scooped two Outer Critics Circle Awards in 2025, picked up seven Tony Award nominations, sold out a London season two months before it opened and is now headed for the big screen, with a team that includes Tina Fey and Sadie Sink. One of the most talked about plays in the world is finally here. Don’t miss it.
