Dean will trace its development through the work of some of the instrument’s most celebrated pioneers, examining how their innovations transformed Greek music across generations. The presentation will highlight the contributions of legendary musicians such as Vassilis Tsitsanis, Markos Vamvakaris, and Manolis Chiotis, George Zampetas and Kostas Papadopoulos exploring how each artist developed a distinctive sound and approach to performance. Through discussion, musical examples, and historical context, Dean will also examine the unique playing techniques, stylistic differences, and lasting influence of these pioneering artists, offering a deeper understanding of the instrument’s enduring place in Greek music and culture.
