A dangerous new work by Rollercoaster Theatre about power, survival, and who gets to tell the tale.
Some stories bite back.
Part fairytale. Part reckoning. RED is a newly devised theatrical work inspired by the Little Red Riding Hood fable. This is not a traditional retelling but a bold, contemporary reimagining from Rollercoaster Theatre, an ensemble of 16 professional actors with intellectual disabilities. It’s a darkly comedic work about power and survival, examining who gets to tell the tale...
Premiering at La Mama Theatre’s Courthouse, RED unfolds in a theatrical world where the performers know they’re inside a story. They know they’re being watched. A controlling narrator attempts to steer events but the ensemble begin to interrupt, disrupt. It doesn’t take long for this story to unravel. This isn’t Red Riding Hood as you know it. Not everyone makes it out of the woods.
From the makers of Tea Party! (NoVacancy), Dream Factory (NoVacancy), and Fish (The Spiegeltent) RED is a genre defying, multi-sensory performance; weaving sound, movement, text, and tactile elements to create truly immersive storytelling.
