Stirred Up

A giant teacup, a storm brewing, and a tea ritual with knives. Steam rises, tensions build. It’s hot, it’s strange, it’s a little dangerous.

Stirred Up draws the audience into a world that is part comfort, part chaos - inviting you to sit inside the ceremony as it slips from familiar to uncanny. This show messes with etiquette to play with what’s rude, impolite and absurd.

Is it the tannin that stains the cup, or something else steeped in the deep?
What comforts us when salt is slipped into the sugar-bowl?
Change is only possible by first stirring the pot.

Created with a sharp, playful sensibility, this work builds on a practice of subverting everyday rituals, blending physical comedy, object manipulation and surreal imagery.

Katy Burrows is a circus and physical theatre performer. They have performed nationally and internationally as a clown as well as with Melbourne-based, award winning, physical theatre company, Born in a Taxi. This is their first solo show.

As the tea leaves settle, what do we find at the bottom of the cup?
