An up-and-coming filmmaker revives a forgotten 80s horror franchise in Jane Schoenbrun’s queer valentine to slasher films, starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson.

Camp Miasma, a long-forgotten 80s slasher franchise, gets a new lease of life when a queer filmmaker lands the chance to reboot it for a new generation. Hoping to recruit the original final girl, she travels to the reclusive actor’s snowbound cabin, the same place the first film was shot. When she arrives, the lines between reality and fiction, fear and desire begin to blur as the blood-soaked world of Camp Miasma and its masked killer spill into their lives.

Curator’s Note
Winner of the Queer Palm at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, director Jane Schoenbrun continues their exploration of how popular culture can open a door to your truest self. This time they take their cues from the slasher film, inviting you to stop worrying and love the genre, problematic bits and all.

Leads Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson fully commit to this gory, romantic horror that wears its references and heart on its bloody sleeve.

It's about climbing out of your head, admitting what you want and allowing yourself to enjoy it. Sexually, yes — that’s right in the title — and creatively, too, as Schoenbrun wants us to keep loving movies that make us squirm.

Content warnings: strong blood and gore, violence
