Venture to the cutting edge of XR in this haunting, reality-bending pilgrimage between digital worlds and a living forest. A big screen overlooking a bustling intersection broadcasts news of a devastating train accident. This is the moment our protagonist, Guan, learns his wife has died. In the aftermath of this tragedy he discovers she was writing a novel, and begins to follow its unfinished narrative, moving between the digital space of her cloud storage and a fantasy-tinged, forested landscape shaped by myth, memory, and endangered life. Director Singing Chen’s immersive XR work, adapted from acclaimed Taiwanese author Wu Ming-Yi’s short story and winner of the Venice Immersive Grand Prize, unfolds as a deeply personal encounter for a single viewer at a time. Inside a small physical space, you become Guan’s drifting shadow: a ghostly presence moving freely through layered worlds that respond and unfold around you. Rather than observing from a distance, you are drawn into a private threshold where memory, story, and presence quietly blur.
