Celebrate International Day of People with Disability at The Other Film Festival and Alter State 2026.

Everyone is welcome to join us for this free screening event at Fed Square’s Big Screen. We are excited to present breakthrough cinema with a focus on Australian short films. Showcasing a new wave of Deaf and Disabled positive cinema. We have curated a program of six Australian short films for you to enjoy.

Meet and celebrate with Deaf and Disabled filmmakers and audience members. The Other Film Festival is Australia’s first international disability film festival. Since 2004, it has become a leader in the global disability screen advocacy movement. The Other Film Festival champions Deaf and Disabled-led and authored work.

Acknowledging also the vital role of allyship in the screen industry to make change together. The Other Film Festival is a Major Project of Arts Access Victoria Fed Square is the gateway to the art precinct – and as Melbourne’s public square it is the civic, cultural and community heart of the city. It also home to three of Victoria’s major cultural institutions: ACMI – Australia’s Museum of Screen Culture, the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia.
