Every generation inherits the promise that consistent work will lead to something more.

But what do we do when the rules change? Set against the rhythms of present-day Sydney, A Well-Known Stranger interrogates the invisible systems that govern everyday life.

As one family grapples with the expectations foisted on them, the gap between sacrifice and opportunity grows. A Well-Known Stranger is a story about the people we encounter every day, but never get to know, and the burden of aspiration and responsibility that continue to be passed from one generation to the next.
